Hvasstan will bypass the Group 1 Randwick Guineas in order to take on the 2013 Alister Clark Stakes field this Friday night at Moonee Valley.
The three-year-old would have to have faced the likes of Rebel Dane and Proisir in the 2013 Randwick Guineas, which makes the 2013 Alister Clark Stakes the perfect choice.
Hvasstan has won three of his nine race starts and has earned more than $270,000 in prize money during his career.
The Fastnet Rock colt finished fourth in the Australian Guineas last start and will be going on to run in the Group 1 Australian Derby after tomorrow night’s race.
Trainer Peter Gelagotis is pleased with Hvasstan’s progress heading into the 2013 Alister Clark Stakes.
“We’ll be up there in Sydney in a couple of weeks giving them all a good look at us,” Gelagotis said.
“But at this stage this is the race that suits us best.
“The distance is right, the timing is right and our horse is right.
“It’s a better progression to the Rosehill Guineas, and then to the Derby.
“We know he will stay and we know he’s going well, so really we couldn’t be much happier.”
The trainer was more than happy with his first two autumn runs.
“All I wanted to see in his first two runs was a sign that he’d come back after the spring,” Gelagotis said.
“His first run was OK (when eighth in the Group 2 Autumn Stakes) but his last run was just what we wanted to see.”
