Quality 2013 Alister Clark Stakes Nominations Announced

March 12th, 2013

A quality group of three-year-olds will contest the Group 2 2013 Alister Clark Stakes (2040m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

Fourteen horses have been nominated to contest the $220,000 event including Mark Kavanagh-trained colt Sheer Talent.

The son of Redoute’s Choice was third in the Group 1 Australian Guineas on March 2 and won the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes last month.

Also coming off a strong Australian Guineas performance is Hvasstan who finished off well to take fourth place.

The Fastnet Rock colt won the Group 3 Norman Robinson Stakes during the spring and finished fourth in the Victoria Derby.

Cranbourne trainer Mick Kent is set to have a strong presence in the race, having nominated three of his charges.

Heading the trio is Australian Guineas sixth Philippi who is joined by High Shot and Rubens.

Leading Victorian trainer Peter Moody has entered one runner with Strive To Excel out to continue a strong patch of form.

The Redoute’s Choice colt won at Mornington in January and is coming off a third-place finish in the Listed Tasmanian Derby last month.

David Hayes has nominated Bass Strait and will be hoping the gelding can turn solid results into success this weekend.

The son of Holy Roman Emperor has been competitive against some classy three-year-olds to finish fifth in both the CS Hayes Stakes and the Australian Guineas.

Also nominated for David Hayes are Gerontius and Green Roller.

The Alister Clark Stakes is the feature race on the Moonee Valley Card that also includes the St Albans Stakes and the Abell Stakes.
