While Melbourne’s horse racing schedule is dominated by the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) this Saturday, the running of the 2010 Alister Clark Stakes is still high on the wagering agenda.
The Group 2 race will be the sixth of the day at the Moonee Valley Racecourse kicking off at 3.25 in the afternoon.
Linton may be starting from the wide ninth barrier, but the draw has not altered the geldings’ prospect, as Sportsbet has him topping the odds at $3.60. The Robert Hickmott-trained sprinter recently won the TAB Big6 Jackpot SV 3YO Maiden Plate (1400m) at the Cranbourne Racecourse, proving him as a strong favourite.
Trained by David Hayes, Extra Zero is close on the tail of Linton, at $3.80. The colt will start with an advantage at the second barrier and comes into the 2010 Alister Clark Stakes with a third placing in the Group 3 C S Hayes Stakes (1400m).
Extra Zero is close on the tail of Linton, at $3.80.
Another horse to keep an eye on is Offhanded. The gelding is a strong contender at $4.60 and has a 1400m win under him at the Pink Stilletto Day Handicap in January.
Starting from the inside barrier Eraset is at $10, equal to the fellow Danny O’Brien-trained At The Heads, while O’Brien’s third starter Take The Rap is at $8.
Rounding out the odds is third barrier starter, Full Metal Jacket, who is at $151. However the gelding could surprise at the 2010 Alister Clark Stakes, having won at Newcastle over 1400 metres in a maiden handicap in January, providing the more risky punter with a handsome reward.
Also racing at Moonee Valley will be the William Reid Stakes, which starts just after 4pm followed by the Group 2 Sunline Stakes (1600m), just a few of the nine races which will run on Saturday
